Ca' di Mat is a project from Curro Barreño and Jesús Olivares ( Founders of Fedellos do Couto in Ribera Scara & Peixes in Ourense) returning to their roots in the Sierra de Gredos, where both started their careers working with Dani Landi and Fernando Garcia.
Fuente de los Huertos comes from a single plot of 60 year old vines at 850m on very poor white, quartz rich granite soils with a north westerly exposure. Whole bunch grapes are foot trod and macerated for 60 days before a year's aging in used 500l oak vessels. The ethereal, translucent cherry red colour belies the long maceration time, whilst shy at first time in the glass delivers delicate floral, rose petal and orange peel aromatics and the subtle palate delivers a core of sweet red fruit, finely detailed tannins with a saline note. This is an elegant and compelling expression of Garnacha, open, pure and refined- a testament to the care and hard work in the vineyard and the hands-off approach in the cellar
