Grape - Malvasia Country - Italy, Region - Friuli
Lying between Gorziza and Trieste, Carso is a unique, windswept shelf of white limestone on the Adriatic coast. Soils here are poor, mineral rich clays mere centimetres deep above the bedrock of free draining limestone whilst the capricious Bora wind can make viticulture challenging. The best wines from Carso display a taut, mineral, hard edge. Malvasia Istriana is an indigenous Friulian variety is an eloquent interpreter of the soil on which it is grown - producing Fuller, spicier styles in Collio and lighter, fresher mineral expression in Carso. The uncompromising Edi Kante is not lightly known as the King of Carso, like all of his wines this is distinctive, age worthy and singular dry, saline and mineral with beautiful peach & apricot character.
